The resurfacing of some of Roxboro's city streets has been delayed.
Last week, City of Roxboro officials announced that the resurfacing project approved last month by Roxboro City Council would begin Monday of this week.
The first street slated to be resurfaced was Old Durham Road. But because Barrett, Irvin & Jordan Construction Inc., the low bidder for the resurfacing contract, ran into a conflict with another job, the Roxboro resurfacing has been delayed, according to Interim City Manager Tommy Warren.
"The street resurfacing will probably now not get started until the end of the next week," Warren told The Courier-Times Monday. "[Barrett, Irvin and Jordan] got delayed a little bit. They are working on another project, I think in Durham, and they didn’t get through with that when they thought they would. So, that has put them a week or so behind getting started here."
Barrett, Irvin & Jordan Construction Inc. turned in the low bid for the resurfacing project, which was at a cost of $266,858,50 or $54.35 per ton.
Warren told council last month that the cost per ton price bid by the contractor was only 35 cents per ton higher than a price received by the city last year for street resurfacing.
The project, which came in under the amount the city had budgeted, will be paid for from Powell Bill funds and are restricted to street improvements.
In addition to Old Durham Road, other streets that are due for some resurfacing improvements include: Doctors Court, Dolly Street, Morehead Street, Melvin Street, Lee Street, Gregory Street, Kappa Drive, Somerset Church Road, Peace Gardens, Long Avenue, Dale Street, Pine Street, Barnett Avenue, Webb Street, Peachtree Street, Virginia Avenue, Abbit Street, Rachel Lane, Cates Street, Jones Street, Main Street, Ivey Street, Henry Street, Allgood Street, Red Oak Street and Willow Oak Drive.
