A new restaurant will be opening soon in Roxboro in the facility that formerly housed Kentucky Fried Chicken on North Madison Boulevard.

Jean Overton, director of the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Center, told The Courier-Times Tuesday that the husband and wife ownership team of Phillip and Dao Tran will open Yamato Japanese Cuisine & Drive-Thru at 1039 N. Madison Blvd. “probably sometime later this summer.”

The Trans currently operate Yamato Japanese Steakhouse at Northgate Mall in Durham.

“They are very excited about coming to Roxboro,” Overton said. “I have been working with them since February toward finding a site. They looked at some other sites, but narrowed it down to the [North Madison Boulevard] site.”

Overton said Dao Tran has told her that Person County residents make up a large portion of her current customer base in Durham.

“That is what made Roxboro so appealing to them,” Overton explained, adding that Taylor Printing & Office Supply president Ray Wilkins even helped encourage Tran to set up a meeting with Overton with hopes of finding a suitable location in Roxboro.

The restaurant will be open seven days a week, according to Overton.
