Culture and Recreation
Person County was the first county in the state to have a county recreation program and has numerous recreation and park facilities, including lake facilities at both Mayo and Hyco Lake These facilities include an RV park, camping, cabin rentals, disc golf, horseshoes, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, handicapped accessible fishing docks, and walking paths. There are twelve parks covering over 222 acres with many baseball fields, including “The Rock Athletic Complex”, the newest acquisition to Person County’s recreational facilities. Person County is birthplace of Major League Baseball Hall of Fame member Enos Slaughter, who played professional baseball mostly for the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals.
